Spotlight on Highgate

Places to Eat and Drink
Highgate has plenty of options if you’re looking for somewhere to eat or drink. It’s especially good for cosy pubs, but you can also find some more contemporary eateries and places to drink in the area. The Duke’s Head is a great pub to drop into if you’re looking for a broad selection of beers, while The Boogaloo Pub is a fantastic venue for live music or enjoying a quiz night. You can find some wonderful Italian restaurants in the area, including the authentic Fabrizio Restaurant. Or if you want somewhere for coffee and tea, try Apemen and the Bean, a tiny craft coffee stand near the cemetery.
Highgate Green Spaces
If you’re looking for green spaces, you’re spoilt for choice in Highgate. There are multiple places that are perfect for a stroll, bike ride, dog walk, or just convening with nature. Highgate Wood is a lovely green space that’s great for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Of course, Hampstead Heath is nearby too and will give you a fantastic view of Highgate from above. Waterlow Park is a slightly more cultivated park, with gardens and lawns surrounding Lauderdale House.

History in Highgate
Of course, Highgate is rich in history, making it perfect for history buffs. And you can take in plenty of it for free, just by walking around. Maybe you’d like to start in the famous Highgate Cemetery, where you will find the graves of figures ranging from Karl Marx to Christina Rossetti. Or you can marvel at the Neo-Gothic architecture of Holly Village; while you can’t go inside, it’s great to look at the exterior. For a more formal education, head to the Highgate Literary and Scientific Institution to see their library or one of their events. Additionally, a tour of Highgate’s blue plaques is a great way to see the area.
Shopping in Highgate
If you’re someone who likes a spot of shopping, Highgate has some excellent options. Independent shops like Highgate Bookshop offer something different away from all the large high-street brands. If you’re looking for something a little different to nibble on, the Russian shop Dacha offers everything from caviar to bread. You can also find greengrocers, wine shops, gift shops, and much more.
